Therapy for eating disorders

We help people of all ages and genders heal from eating disorders and disordered eating habits.

Calories, the number on the scale, and the way your body looks…they take up so much real estate in your mind and life.

You can recognize the way these habits are impacting you—your relationships may be suffering or you might be noticing new health consequences that weren’t there before—but you can’t seem to release your grip on them (and their grip on you). A new life stage such as going to college or becoming a parent may have intensified these feelings.

But you want more for your future than this. You’re tired of white-knuckling through life and are ready to heal your relationship with food, your body, and the scale.

We want that for you too.

How therapy for eating disorders works

We’ll help you address your eating disorder at its source.

We all have an inner dialogue. When you’re struggling with an eating disorder, there are usually two conversations happening at once: your healthy-self voice (the one that knows these habits aren’t serving you) and your ED voice (the one that perpetuates the thoughts & beliefs fueling them). In therapy, you’ll learn how to identify—and, more importantly— differentiate between the two, so you can begin strengthening the healthy self and challenging the ED.

Your therapist will help you explore your values, family history, and relationships in the context of your eating disorder. You’ll look at the way your habits have served you in the past and start finding newer, healthier ways to heal and have your needs met. We’ll support you in challenging the lies your ED has convinced you of and the family, peer, or cultural messages that may have fueled them.

Eating disorder therapy is not a “quick fix.” It requires patience and motivation, but when you look back and reflect on your progress, you’ll be able to see just how far you’ve come.

YOU DON’T HAVE TO WAIT TO ASK FOR HELP.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • This is a common feeling among people who seek out eating disorder therapy, but there is no “threshold” you must meet in order to get support. if you’re finding that your thoughts, feelings, or habits related to your body or food are impacting your day-to-day life, therapy can help. The sooner you ask for help, the sooner we can support you in moving toward a place of acceptance, peace, and healthier habits.

  • Absolutely. A formal diagnosis is not required to benefit from therapy. If we determine through our work together that you require a higher level of treatment than we can provide, we will refer you to a program that’s better suited to meet your needs.

  • Your eating disorder is not your fault. You are not to blame for it. It is not a result of your shortcomings or weakness—rather, it is an illness that deserves treatment. As part of therapy, we’ll help you explore the root causes of your ED in order to decrease feelings of shame, guilt, or self-blame.

  • Definitely not! Our eating disorder therapist has specific expertise in treating these conditions. We understand it’s not that simple, and we will never minimize your thoughts, struggles, or experiences. They are real, they are valid, and they are welcome here.
