Benjamin Maxson
Licensed Marriage & Family Therapist, CA #152516
My goal is to create a space where you feel deeply supported, understood, and empowered to shape your life with confidence.
Maybe you’re struggling to find your voice, and it’s making it hard to feel connected in your relationships (including the one with yourself). There are layers of perfectionism, self-doubt, and expectations that have been placed on you, and no matter how hard you try to break the cycles, you’re still stuck. And if you’re facing a big life transition, carrying old grief or trauma, or noticing anxiety creeping into more and more parts of your life, it can feel even harder.
For couples, it might feel like you’re speaking different languages, stuck in the same conflicts, or never feeling like you’re truly on the same team. And for teens and young adults, figuring out who you are and where you fit isn’t just overwhelming — it’s isolating.
My Background & Approach
Here, you can feel genuinely supported and safe enough to explore every part of yourself and every phase of life you’re going through — even the messy, hard-to-talk about parts. My approach is warm, down-to-earth, and always infused with hope (and a bit of humor when it I helps). Therapy shouldn’t be cold or clinical; it should feel more like sitting with a trusted guide who’s right there with you, helping you untangle what’s holding you back. That’s the kind of therapist I strive to be — someone who helps you feel empowered, confident, and truly equipped with the tools you need to finally move forward..
We’ll start by getting curious about what’s going on beneath the surface — the stories and patterns that have shaped you — and then work together to creat practical, real-time strategies for change. I see you as the expert on your own life, but I’ll be here to walk alongside you, offer insight, and gently challenge you when you’re ready.
My work draws from a variety of approaches including Psychodynamic theory, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), EMDR, Gottman Method for couples, and Intergenerational Family Therapy. Sessions aren’t one-size-fits-all and will be tailored to both your unique needs and story. Ultimately, my goal is for you to leave our sessions feeling more self-aware, more at peace, and more empowered to shape a life that feels meaningful and true to who you are.
I hold a Master’s degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and advanced training in EMDR. Over the years, I’ve supported clients through addiction and recovery, as well as a wide range of relational and developmental challenges. My early work in treatment and crisis settings taught me just how strong and resilient people can be, inspiring my passion for helping people create lasting meaningful change in their lives.
